ibd Parisol Shellac Manicure
Quick post today. I recently got another Shellac manicure and I got the colour Parisol by ibd. Here is the link to their website and this particular colour:
http://www.ibdbeauty.com/color_map.php?sku=56535
This colour is so vibrant! I love it! While I was getting them done, other ladies at the spa were admiring my nails and they too wanted the same colour. The colour in real life is a tad more magenta than these photos show. Perfect for summer or for a vacation.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Rockstar, Barcelona Beach and Homecoming - Review and Swatches
I recently purchased 3 new Makeup Geek eyeshadows - Rockstar, Barcelona Beach and Homecoming. In the picture above in the top right hand spot is Rockstar. In the bottom left is Barcelona Beach and the bottom right is Homecoming. Rockstar and Barcelona Beach are new Makeup Geek eyeshadows and Homecoming has been around for awhile.
Rockstar is a very unusual eyeshadow colour. It is described as pale silver with purple iridescence. It is a shimmer, yet there is something very matte about it. To me it is a milky colour with opal shimmer. This is a strange colour for me review and I have mixed feelings about it. I find the colour a bit chunky and chalky. It does smooth out well for the most part. It's not quite the colour I was expecting. I don't think I have been pairing it properly with the right eyeshadows such as oranges and pinks as Marlena from Makeup Geek has suggested. It's the type of colour that you have no idea when to wear it - what clothing would look good with it. Yet, when you have an outfit on and think to yourself that you have no clue what makeup to wear, Rockstar seems to be the answer! So strange. As a result, I ended up wearing this eyeshadow almost every day for two weeks when I was feeling uninspired in the makeup department. I can't say that I love it, but it sure is different and works in a pinch.
Barcelona Beach is described as a medium sand shade with a matte finish. I do like this colour. The quality it excellent. Nice and creamy, easy to blend and very pigmented. I do fear that I have a million dupes for it in my collection, maybe not as good quality, but still. This colour looks nice in the crease especially if you have a shimmery lighter brown on your lid.
Finally, we have Homecoming. I resisted buying this colour for so long. It just looked very unexciting to me. It is described as a medium brown with gold shimmer. Although I somewhat agree with the description, I find it has something purple about it. I wore it the other day for the first time and I kept staring at it in the mirror all throughout the day. It kept looking better as the day went on. It blends like a dream and is super creamy and pigmented. When my husband came home from work he took one look at me (and he seldom comments on my makeup by the way), cocked his head to the side and said "Oh you have a lot of makeup on, looks nice". The funny thing is that I was only wearing Homecoming with some black liquid liner and mascara. I had foundation on too, but that is besides the point. This eyeshadow is multi-dimensional and therefore it looks like you have a lot of different eyeshadow colours on at once when you only have one. Super cool. It reminds me of so many other eyeshadows I own, but with a twist. Also, this one is better quality than most of the dupes I have. Homecoming may end up being in my Top 5 Makeup Geek eyeshadows. Crazy!
Swatch time! Left to right is Rockstar, Barcelona Beach and Homecoming.
I am not going to rate these as I usually do as I have rated so many Makeup Geek (MUG) eyeshadows that this is getting to be a bit redundant. Suffice to say, these area superior quality, they are an excellent price at $5.99 U.S. and if you don't already, you need some of these in your collection.

Estee Lauder Bold Volume Lifting Mascara - Review
There are a couple of Estee Lauder mascaras that I really like, but this is not one of them. I got this tube of Estee Lauder Bold Volume Lifting Mascara for free in some gift with purchase promotion. I actually own a few of this exact mascara in a bunch of mini tubes. I love mini mascaras for my purse in general so I never refuse a freebie of this nature. So anyway, I don't like this mascara. It doesn't create much volume, doesn't lift as far as I am concerned whatsoever, and don't even start me on the lengthening properties. Basically, this mascara adds exactly zero length to my lashes.
This has to be Estee Lauder's worst mascara. To me, all this mascara does is darken and gloss up my existing eyelashes. I don't have much to work with in the way of eyelashes to begin with so when I use this you still can barely see my eyelashes. It's almost pointless using this for me.
The brush is fairly traditional with a tapered end. This brush doesn't tend to work well with my short, stubby lashes. It even seems to shrink or constrict them a bit. Not good. It also smudges. This is what I call emergency mascara - you only bust it out when you have no good mascara left that hasn't gone bad!

Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder in 20 Classic Ivory - Review and Swatch
I have another drug store item for all of you today. I have a vacation day off work so I took advantage of some natural morning light for my pictures. I got the suggestion to try this powder from one of Makeup Geek's YouTube videos. As this is drug store makeup, I wasn't holding my breath that I would like it, but I actually do! This powder is nice and finely milled and super soft.
I use a big, fluffy brush to apply this. It is easy to work with and glides on easily. What I like most about this product is that is blurs flaws and makes your skin look dewy and fresh for hours. I find that I don't need to reapply throughout the day except maybe to literally powder my nose a little. Some people can wear this on its own, but I am not there yet. I wear this over my foundation and/or cover-up.
I shade I have is Classic Ivory. I didn't bother to use the tester at the store (am I the only one who thinks store testers for makeup are some of the dirtiest things around???) since I recalled from my high school and university days, when I didn't have cash for high end makeup, that I used to be a good match for Classic Ivory. The colour is still a match. The ingredients list is nice and short. There are a couple of questionable ingredients but I guess you can't win them all. I dare say this is likely the best face powder at the drug store. It also doesn't look cakey at any point during the day.
The bottom of the compact has a mirror and a sponge pad. I am quite happy with this addition as this makes this compact great for travel. The packaging is a bit cheap, but it could be worse. This is drug store so I must remember not to be picky. Bad Alexis! I believe I paid around $12 or so Canadian for this at the Superstore. Here are the swatches:

L'Oreal 24 hr. Infallible Eye Shadow in 996 Liquid Diamond and 892 Amber Rush - Review and Swatch
I reviewed four of these L'Oreal 24 hr. Infallible Eye Shadows a while back in two different blog reviews. I didn't like them and I talked some smack about them. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why anyone liked these. For the most part, I still feel that way. I will concede, however, and say that the colours are not all created equal. When I previously did a review on the four other colours I mentioned that I actually ordered a bunch of these online without ever having tried them. Bonehead move on my part. The shades that everyone was raving about seemed not to be available in Canada, just the U.S. Why is it that Canada always carries the crappy makeup colours when it comes to drug store stuff in their stores??? It ticks me off.
Sorry for the shadow in the above picture. These two colours in particular are only available in the States I believe. Let's start with Liquid Diamond. This eye shadow is really pigmented when swatched and when you apply it to your eyelid. It really pops when you have it on. I did find that the colour faded as the day went on when I wore it. It did not blend well - the edges that is. I would say within 4 to 6 hours it was significantly fading and looking muddy in the crease. I had eye shadow primer on. It's almost like the product starts sliding off of your eye. Not overly impressed with this one. If you are Cinderella and are only going to the ball for 2 hours, you might be ok to give this a go! Maybe if you have drier lids than me it would work better for you than I.
Liquid Diamond is on the left and Amber Rush is on the right above. On to Amber Rush. I thought I would hate this eye shadow. It is not my typical preferred eye shadow colour. I put it on and it blended quite well. It has very good pigment. I was surprised by how much I liked the look of it with some black liquid liner. As the day wore on, I noticed it wasn't fading. Every couple of hours I snuck a peek at it and nothing. I have worn this colour for over 12 hours and there was no bleeding, no muddiness, no fading, no creasing, no budging. I did use eye shadow primer with this. This is a very pretty colour that may just look good on everyone. It looks like expensive shadow on and it is multi-dimensional. So like I said, these eye shadows are not all created equal.
Swatch time! I think you can tell which colour is which. Please ignore the cut on my arm.
I have two more shades from this line to try out so I will get to that soon.

Back to MAC July 2014
I have been working on this Back to MAC bundle for months. I am so glad I finally have my 6 containers to return so that I can get my beloved Shroom eyeshadow in the swap. Not having it these past couple of months has been unspeakable. I promised myself that I would not buy it outright, I would complete my Back to MAC first as a challenge to myself.
So here are my 6 items:
1. and 2. MAC Brush Cleanser (x2) - I wish they made a bigger bottle. I tend to go through this stuff like water.
3. Shroom Eyeshadow - One of my holy grails. Cannot live without it. Or at least not easily.
4. Shadestick in Beige-ing - Worst MAC product ever....it creased it crazy, it wouldn't stay on my eyelid, impossible to apply and then it dried up like an old dried mushroom when I neglected it for a number of months. I don't think they sell this product anymore and with good reason!
5. Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Light- Medium. I hated this product at first and then grew to love it. Will likely repurchase at some point. They don't make the shade Light-Medium anymore, it's now called Light Plus....
6. Capricious Lipstick - Quite like this colour. Finally finished it! This was the first MAC lipstick that I ever completely finished. Hooray!
That's it! I have some drug store makeup coming up later this week and some product updates, so stay tuned!

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess The Nudes EyeShadow Palette - Review and Swatches
I picked up this palette on a total whim. I was at the Estee Lauder counter in Sears grabbing my usual foundation when I saw this calling to me. It looked perfect. It reminded me of the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette with 3 extra jazzy shimmer eye shadows. I was a little disappointed with the UD Naked Basics palette so I was hoping Estee Lauder came up with something better. I know the two look similar and I didn't need this palette. Just beat me now.
So in this palette you get 5 neutral shadows and 3 high-impact metallics. You also get a big mirror in the palette and a dual-ended brush. I haven't used the brush yet. One end looks like a denser MAC 239 and the other end is a useless sponge tip applicator. For some reason, in my mind, I thought that the metallics could be used wet or dry. I think I was mistaken. They look like a streaky, hot mess when wet.
The eyeshadows don't have names. Total palette weight is 0.45 oz. or 13g so 1.625g per shadow which is a good size. I believe this palette is $60 U.S. I paid around that in Canadian dollars. Maybe $66??? I will use this palette, because they are neutral shades, I want my money's worth and they are of "ok" quality, but honestly, I wish I hadn't spent the money. This palette is so not worth it. I was thinking that this palette would be good for travel, but I highly doubt I will ever travel with this. It's too bulky and the shadows are fussy to apply when you are in a rush.
To sum up what I think about this palette, the pigmentation is not great for any of these shadows. I have to apply quite a bit, and keep dipping my brush in there in order to get decent payoff. The best of the metallic shadows is the icy white shade. The gold is too warm and too orange for my personal taste. The purple is nice but the quality isn't up to par. As for the matte nude shades, the middle beige colour is so sad when you apply it. You can barely see it. Give me my MAC or Makeup Geek shadows over this any day! The fourth colour in, the lighter brown shade is kind of a gross brown. It's very warm and just not attractive. Very puke orange. The dark brown would be nice but again the pigmentation is sub par. Here are the swatches:
Packaging: 6/10 (nice, big mirror but palette is too thick for travel)
Pigmentation: 4/10 Easy to Work With: 4/10
Longevity: 6/10
Colour Stays True: 8/10
Texture: 6.5/10 (some are a little chalky and dry)
Price: 5/10 (for what you get quality wise it's not good)
Ingredients: 7/10
Travel Worthy: 5/10
Attractiveness of Product: 5/10
Would I buy this again? No Way Jose

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara - Review
Is it possible to take an attractive picture of mascara? I don't think so. It is what it is.
I meant to do a post on an eyeshadow palette for you guys next (i.e., today) but alas I was not in the mood. Likely it is because the palette isn't as good as I was hoping. I will have it up though in the next 48 hours.
Okay, back to the topic at hand. So I got this mascara free this past Christmas at the Bobbi Brown counter at The Bay. I got a coupon for this freebie in the mail. I picked up a palette while I was at it. I already reviewed that palette ages ago on my blog. Anyway, I wasn't expecting much. I have never heard anyone say, "Oh my God, you have to try this Bobbi Brown mascara...". Well now you are going to hear it from me. You have to try this mascara! Yes, it is true, this is the best mascara that I have ever used. That is a bold statement coming from me. Yes, I like this better than the YSL Babydoll and the Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! mascaras which are definitely in my Top 5.
The Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara does it all. It lengthens fantastically, volumizes like crazy and curls your lashes a bit. I have zero lashes naturally. Practically nothing to work with. So for a mascara to impress me, that is no small feat. The brush is not exciting at all. I am amazed that it does so much so it must be the formula that is excellent. This mascara catches every lash and does an amazing job on my inner lashes. I haven't noticed any smudging (without glasses) and no flakes. If you have the patience to do a few coats, this mascara will seriously impress you. Don't try to wad too much on or it will clump a little. Less is definitely more with this mascara. The key is use a little, let it get tacky, apply another coat and repeat.
I am so happy that I have only been using this mascara for a month or so because that means that I get to use it for the rest of the summer hopefully before it dries out or gets stinky. This mascara is not cheap, sadly. It is $33 Canadian or $28 U.S. I checked Sephora's website and people are raving about this mascara. Where has it been all of my life???
Packaging: 8/10
Pigmentation: 8.5/10
Easy to Work With: 9/10
Longevity: 9/10
Texture: 9/10
Price: 6.5/10
Ingredients: ??? TBD
Travel Worthy: 10/10
Smudge Proof: 10/10 (without glasses haven't tried it with)
Flake and Clump Proof: 9/10 (only clumps it if you use too much)
Attractiveness of Product: 10/10
Would I buy this again? Hell Yes

Too Faced Candy Bar Pop-Out Makeup Palette and Phone Case - Review and Swatches
I picked up this little palette recently from Sephora. It cost me $18 Canadian. It retails for $15 U.S. currently as it is on sale. The regular price was $30 Canadian and it is supposedly a $115 Canadian value. I think that it pushing it....
I took this directly from Sephora's website. You get in this palette:
This set contains:- 0.014 oz Eyeshadow x 9 in Vanilla, Medium Brown, Plum, Pink, Rose Gold, Moss, Silver, Dark Blue, Matte Brown
- 0.032 oz Eyeshadow in Matte Caramel, Peach
- 0.053 oz Blush in Coral
- 0.11 oz Matte Bronzer in Chocolate Soleil
- Detachable chocolate bar design iPhone 5 case
The iPhone case that comes with it is decorative only. I don't believe it would provide any real protection. I don't have an iPhone myself, so I just leave the case on the palette. The palette chipped on one corner the first time I touched it. This palette is super thin and lightweight. Super handy for travel or putting in your purse.
A lot of bloggers have said that they thought that the pigmentation of the eyeshadows in here is substandard. I personally don't think so. Most of these bloggers have compared this palette to the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette which gets rave reviews. If that palette is as good as people say that maybe they have set the bar too high for this little mini palette. No pun intended. I own the Chocolate Bar palette but I am ashamed to report I have never cracked it open. Too much makeup, too little time. I will soon though.
I don't love the eyeshadows in this palette, but they aren't bad. The are decently pigmented and are long lasting. The formula of the shimmers is fairly creamy but I do find the matte shades are a bit chalky and dry. In particular, the two matte brown eyeshadows are hard to work with and the colour of both is not so great. The two big eyeshadows in Matte Caramel and Peach are not my faves either. The are both very warm shades and they make me look sickly. The Matte Caramel is very yellow and the Peach is just really unflattering. But before you dismiss the eyeshadows, some of them are quite good. Plum, Pink, Rose Gold and Dark Blue are quite nice.
In addition, you get the cult favourite matte bronzer in Chocolate Soleil. This is one of my favourite bronzers. Hell, this palette is worth buying for the bronzer alone! The blush, Coral, is unique I think and pairs well with the bronzer. It's a colour most people could pull off. I think the Chocolate Soleil in this palette is not as pigmented as the full sized version, and it looks a tad lighter, but personally I don't mind as I prefer to build my bronzer slowly than to accidentally get heavy handed with a super pigmented bronzer. The same holds true for the blush, it is pigmented decently, but not crazily so.
Overall for $18, this is a steal. I recently took this palette with me on an overnight business trip. It took up very little space in my makeup bag and was so light I almost wondered if I had remembered to pack it. This palette is perfect for a weekend away if you don't wish to carry much. Okay, on to the swatches! Here are the first 7 eyeshadows from the top left hand corner of the palette to the first one from the 3rd row under two different lights.
Then here are the last 4 eyeshadows along with the bronzer and blush on the far right of my arm. See, the pigmentation is pretty good!
Packaging: 8/10 (props to Too Faced for making it so lightweight)
Pigmentation: 8/10 Easy to Work With: 7/10
Longevity: 8/10
Colour Stays True: 10/10
Texture: 7/10 (some are a little chalky)
Price: 10/10 (you get a lot for your money)
Ingredients: 6.510

Attractiveness of Product: 7/10
Would I buy this again? Maybe (it was a good buy)

Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Age Reversing Line/Wrinkle Eye Creme - Mini Review
Hello everyone! Just a quick post tonight. I promise to have two eye palette reviews up by the end of the week. I recently got a small jar of this as part of a gift with purchase promotion. My "small jar" has been going strong for nearly 4 weeks now and I use it twice a day. I don't feel that I can give a thorough review on this product because I don't have any crow's feet or visual lines around my eyes (thank God). I am very fortunate I know as many women, including those a lot younger than me, already have crow's feet and the like. I am not sure, based on my needs, that this is the eye cream for me.
As I have mentioned in the past, I have serious dark circles under my eyes. I need an eye cream to help with that. I stopped using my Origins Eye Doctor (finished the jar) just before I started using this and I am noticing a big change already. My dark under eye circles look awful. They have never looked worse. I can only chalk it up to stopping using Eye Doctor. Just to be clear, Estee Lauder's Advanced Time Zone Eye Cream doesn't promise to do jack squat to help with your under eye circles. So we can't poo poo Estee Lauder here. No promises made, no promises broken.
So I can't grade this product on helping with dark circles under the eyes and I can't grade it on it's wrinkle fighting properties since I don't have anything to fight....that leaves me with one thing. Moisturization. Hence, why this is a mini review. I have to say this product is comparable to, if not better than, Origins' Eye Doctor in terms of being nourishing and moisturizing. It's very comfortable on and it's like your eyes sigh and sing after you apply it. You don't need much. This would be an excellent eye cream choice for anyone with dry skin and/or as a winter eye cream. Heck, it's summer and I keep wearing it. I won't be rushing to purchase a full size though because it isn't helping me at all with my raccoon eyes.

bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 2.0 in The Perfect Storm - Review and Swatches
I got this eyeshadow duo from Sephora for free as part of some kind of promotion with an online purchase a few months back The duo, by bareMinerals, is called "The Perfect Storm". When I first looked at the colours I thought that they looked very unexciting and that they might possibly look muddy or unattractive on. I was wrong. Both of these colours are very well pigmented. The white shade called "Cumulus" looks crazy white. It is very white, but when used with the dark grey purple shade "Tempest", they make a formidable duo and the white doesn't looks so "white".
This eyeshadow duo reminds me a lot of Estee Lauder's Pure Color 01 Vanilla Pods duo with the exception that The Perfect Storm is matte and the grey purple colour is darker. I kind of like the shimmer of Vanilla Pods better. Also Vanilla Pods looks more sleek, classic, sophisticated and more expensive. Is that a terrible thing to say???
This duo looks best on if you cap it off with some nice black winged liquid or gel liner and mascara of course. The Perfect Storm blends beautifully. The packaging is cute as usual. bareMinerals does an excellent job of making thin, sleek compacts with huge mirrors in them. Very compact. Very travel friendly. The ingredients are good to so you don't have to worry.
These READY 2.0 duos are $25 Canadian and $20 U.S. The duo is 3g or 0.1 oz. which is a decent amount of shadow. The Perfect Storm duo doesn't appear to be available through Sephora's website. I saw it on bareMinerals website a little white ago but when I checked today, I didn't see it. Maybe they are just out of stock. Perhaps Ulta has it? Okay, here are some swatches:
In the picture above we have Tempest on the left and Cumulus on the right . In the picture below, it is the opposite under two different lights:

June 2014 Empties!
Happy Canada Day to all of my Canadian readers!
This past month has been very disappointing in terms of empties. I cannot tell you how many products I am scraping the bottom of, but they just won't die! Maybe that is a good thing, but I like to get rid of the old to make way for the new.
I have 7 empties this month and here they are left to right:
1. Nivea Pure & Natural Body Milk with Organic Argan Oil & Jojoba Oil - This is the second one that I went through over the winter months. I quite liked it. For drug store cream, it's one of the best and the ingredients don't make me too nervous. It kept my skin hydrated and the smell was light and inoffensive. Already repurchased.
2. NARS Lipstick in Damage - A very sheer lipstick, but the formula is excellent and I love the colour on me. I swear there was more product below the rim than above it. I scraped out every last bit. Considering what the lipstick cost, you would too! Already repurchased.
3. Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Conditioner - This was actually a very good product. It is the best of the Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil product line. This made my hair very soft. If you are on a budget and want a "Moroccon Oil" conditioner, this is a good choice. I would consider repurchasing.
4. Clinique Makeup Brush Cleanser Refill - This is hands down the best brush cleaner that I have ever used. It's very similar to the MAC one. I have an entire blog review on this on my blog if you are interested. This is the second bottle that I have gone through. I think this product may be discontinued! Ahhhh. Well, I enjoyed it while it lasted. Would repurchase if I could....
5. L'Occitane en Provence Dry Skin Hand Cream - This is the purse size and that is exactly where I keep it. I love it. It may be one of the best hand creams ever...It has a strong smell but I like it. It's very old world. I have a guy friend who would say "it smells like my dead grandmother". By that, he doesn't mean any disrespect and doesn't mean that it smells like a corpse, he means it smells the way his grandmother's perfume dresser used to smell when he was a boy. Depending on your taste, you might love or hate the smell. It's a very solid hand cream though. Will repurchase very soon.
6. Origins Eye Doctor - I used up all of this a few weeks ago. It was the first of my "empties" for June. Since I have a crap load of eye cream around the place, I decided not to rush to repurchase this but instead to use up some of my stash. I am already regretting my decision. The dark circles under my eyes have never looked worse since I stopped using this. Will have to buy more stat.
7. Lush Ultabalm - This stuff is fantastic on all of your dry parts and bits. That sounded a tad rude - sorry! I use to use this on feet all of the time and it works well. There is only one problem. It's greasy as all hell. For that reason, I have stopped buying it for now. I find that the product leaves a greasy stain whenever you accidentally rub up against something where you used this product. It wipes off and isn't long lasting (the stain that is) but it's a pain in the ass. This was my last pot that I had hanging around for ages. It was time to use it up and finish it off.
So there it is! Stay tuned as I have 3 eye shadow palette reviews coming up later in the week and an eye cream to review. I also have an update to give on a product that some of you might find interesting.
